Maintaining the Market Value of Lakeshore Properties in Maine

WHEN: Thursday May 16, 2024 9:00 am - 12:00:00

WHERE: LEA’s Maine Lake Science Center, 51 Willett Road, Bridgton ME

Maine’s beautiful, clean, and clear lakes are a primary economic driver for rural communities.

These lakes are sensitive to development and several lakes in Maine have experienced declines in water quality. Real estate agents are often the first point of contact for many new landowners and their words and values form long-lasting impressions. This course aims to give real estate agents a well-rounded and holistic view on Maine’s lakes and ponds to be more knowledgeable about freshwater issues with their clients, and in turn, preserve market value of properties.

This Course will Provide Real Estate Professionals with:

  • A background in laws and regulations for Maine waterbodies, including shoreland zoning
  • How to evaluate development potential and restrictions for a particular parcel of land
  • Where to find current and accurate information on lakes and ponds
  • An introduction to the LakeSmart program, a statewide initiative that offers homeowners free site-specific recommendations for lake-friendly living
  • Access to publications on lake-friendly living for interested landowners
  • Contact information and technical assistance

This 3-hour MREC-approved continuing education program will be taught by Colin Holme of Lakes Environmental Association, Chad Thompson of Portland Water District, and Sam Hamilton of Eaton Peabody Law Firm.

Cost:  $40; group rates available
