Invasive Aquatic Plants in Maine

Variable-leaf milfoil (VLM) is the most common invasive aquatic plant in Maine, found in 49 waterways in the state. You can find more information about VLM and how LEA is working to combat it by clicking here.

In addition to VLM there are 7 other invasive aquatic plant species found in our lakes and rivers. The map below shows the locations of all the plant infestations in Maine:

This poster lists the 15 invasive aquatic plants that are illegal to buy/sell/possess in Maine. The red boxes indicate the plants we already have in Maine.
