2025 LakeSmart Report

The LakeSmart program teaches landowners how to manage their properties to reduce or eliminate stormwater runoff and related erosion into their lake or pond. Responsible management reduces phosphorus loading and the potential for catastrophic lake algae blooms. LEA serves as the regional sponsor and administrative Hub in the Lake Region for the statewide LakeSmart program. A property that is particularly lake-friendly receives the LakeSmart Award, with accompanying signs to display at the owner’s shore and at the end of the driveway.

This year, we completed 48 evaluations, and 26 properties received LakeSmart Awards.

LEA is proud to recognize the dedicated volunteers who make this program possible; to recognize the area’s property owners who have participated in the program this season; and to announce the 2025 recipients of area LakeSmart Awards.

Lake Region volunteer LakeSmart evaluators: Layne Albert, Lenny Anderson, Chris Brink, Patricia Burns, Larry Clark, Bill Dexter, Dave Durrenberger, Merri Ehrhard, Dan Goldberg, Larry Griffin, Peter LaPolice, Roy Lambert, Kevin Ronan, Elizabeth Stockwood, BJ Warner

LEA became the Hub for the LakeSmart program in the Lake Region in 2016. Since then, we’ve evaluated 342 properties in the Lake Region, 165 of which have received LakeSmart Awards. Landowners who have participated represent 26 area lakes and ponds.
