Early detection of invasive aquatic plants is a critical step in protecting our lakes. During this presentation, you will hear about invasive plants present in Maine waters and common native look-alikes. We will also discuss how you can help with the early detection and prevention of invasive plants in your lake or pond.
For the second half of the presentation, we will provide an update on LEA’s ongoing control work with milfoil. Each year, we hire 15-18 divers in the summer to manually remove invasive variable-leaf milfoil. During this talk, you’ll learn what control methods we use and where we are currently focusing the work. We’ll also show video footage of our team working underwater.
