Moose Pond High Resolution Temperature Monitoring North Basin

The water column of Moose Pond’s north basin was weakly stratified when sensors were deployed. Surface water temperatures increased gradually until reaching peak temperature of 30.2 °C (86.4 °F) in mid-July. Surface water cooled slightly in late July and warmed again in early August before beginning a gradual decline that persisted for the remainder of the season. Shallow waters began to cool and mix with waters from the middle depths in mid-August. Temperatures throughout the water column were becoming more uniform by late September with full mixing occurring in late October just before sensors were retrieved.
